SATURDAY WRITING PROMPT
Well if you missed our Fall Writers Workshop you missed a great opportunity to learn some tricks of the trade...not only research and fact checking to validate your work (non-fiction or fiction) but some "games writers play" to get the creative juices flowing!
We are not the kind of group to say ..."too bad"...but rather, we would like to share some of the game details with you. There are many ways to induce words and hone creative babies (without pain most of the time) and by incorporating these exercises into your daily writing routine, you allow your mind to just let go. This process works in much the same way as free fall writing, which of course is, one of the major exercises in lubricating pen and brain.
Others can include:
- Cut pictures from magazines of people, places and things. Use these images to write. They may inspire a story, a poem or just words to describe. You decide. Look at the picture - what thoughts come to mind, immediately? Don't spend time analyzing it - just write. Go places with your writing.
Make a list of characteristics or traits to describe a person - your character, perhaps. Answer these questions as you observe your character. A picture from a magazine can help. Such questions are not only physical attributes but also, personality traits. This helps build your character...then give them a name - it is not quite as important as the other details. - Use three very different and unrelated words. Cut them out of a newspaper or see our newletter for suggestions. Write something that incorporates all three words or is inspired by the words.
REMEMBER:
- there are no rules
- there is no right or wrong
- just try it
- keep on writing!
