SATURDAY WRITING PROMPT
There are many meanings and celebrations for May Day - marked on the current calendar as May 1st but variations exist depending upon the celebration. In history, one meaning of this day was the start of the summer season where warmth and light gave way to new birth and growth.
In Irish Mythology the beginning of the summer season started at Beltane (May Eve, April 30th). Great bonfires would mark a time of purification and transition, and were accompanied with ritual acts to protect the people from any harm by otherworldly spirits. Like the festival of Samhain, opposite Beltane on October 31, Beltane was also a time when the Otherworld was seen as particularly close at hand.
Use the fire festival as a background and write something "otherworldly."
