2010 Book Project
This red arrow confirms a Saturday Writing Prompt will be used in the book. Choose to write on any that have this icon.
The 2010 Book Project will be designed around one memorable prompt from October 2007 and 24 Saturday Writing Prompts posted to the WFSC web site calendar over the last 10 1/2 months. These inspiring exercises have "prompted" some masterful writing by our members and as a member you can submit favorites for consideration in the upcoming publication.
The WFSC book - WRITING PROMPT JOURNEY - The Road to Your Creativity - will be launched at the Words in the Park Book Sale and Fair to be held at the new Strathcona County Library on Saturday, December 4th.
Mission: The purpose of this book is to help writers stretch their imagination - be creative and step outside the box.
On behalf of the WFSC Book Project Committee - Good Luck!
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
- We encourage members to use the web site to post written material. If you have not signed into the site, please contact Linda for help to do so. We may solicit entries from prompts posted to the comments section of the individual prompts if we do not have a suitable number of entries for any one prompt.
- Twenty-five prompts are available for you to choose from - the dates are listed below; find details on the "events" page under the Book Prompt List - click on the calendar icon, top right corner
- Email 1 submission for up to 5 of your favorite prompts - keep in mind, the more you send, the better chance you have of being chosen for publication. For example - you can submit 1, but there is no guarantee that it will be published - send 5 for a better chance.
- Word count to a maximum of 1000 words - this will be strictly adhered to due to lay-out requirements; shorter pieces are also encouraged to show concise versatility in writing.
- Participants must be willing to edit, shorten or rework their writing based on the recommendations of the Book Project Committee and work with a Committee Liaison if they are to be considered for publication. A Submission Agreement Form must accompany all entries - download attachment below.
- There is no submission fee and all members chosen for publication will receive one complimentary copy of the Anthology.
- Members in good standing as of May 11, 2010 are eligible to enter.
- Deadline for submissions is August 15th, 2010, no exceptions.
- Email your submissions to wfscsherwoodpark@hotmail.com - please copy and paste into the body of an email with the SUBJECT LINE: Writing Prompts Submissions. Please include Submission Agreement Form
SELECTION FOR THE BOOK WILL BE MADE WITH CONSIDERATION FOR THE FOLLOWING:
- All forms and styles of writing will be considered.
- Based on the number of submissions for any one prompt - variety, originality, uniqueness - will play a role in selection.
- Work qualifications such as technical skills are required to be polished before submission. Please refer to a reference book such as Strunk & White's Elements of Style for guidance. The WFSC will proofread but reserves the right to edit for grammar, punctuation, and length (word count). A committee liaison will collaborate with the author. Work that requires extensive revisions will not be considered at this time, due to the deadlines required for release. The WFSC is committed to supporting writers "any stage" and will work with you to assist you in preparing your work for next year.
- Work must be the author's own original work and be previously unpublished, with the exception of personal blogs.
