At the WFSC Writing ROCKS!
Do you know a young writer who would benefit from a Young Writers Group? The WFSC is looking to establish a youth group for up and coming novelists, prospective poets, or savvy newspaper journalists. The group would operate under the direction and mentorship of the WFSC and its dedicated members. Young writers are encouraged to attend our Writers Circle. To express interest or for more information contact wfscsherwoodpark@hotmail.com Attention: Young Writers Group Coordinator
UPDATE: if you are a young writer or you know of a young writer who would be interested in meeting with members of the Writers Foundation of Strathcona County, a meeting is available on the first Tuesday of every month from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Young writers aged 13 - 17 are welcome to attend. Get support, guidance and help with your creative writing endeavors. The mentors will not direct or edit school work but will have an open discussion on creative writing, idea sharing and establishing your own writer's voice. If you are interested in running your own writer's meetings, the WFSC members will help you establish meeting guidelines, set up workshop prompts and writing ideas, etc. based on our own Writers Circle and its caring, sharing fellowship. If you are interested, please attend the 6:00 pm meeting in the Multi-purpose room of the Strathcona County Library, on the first Tuesday of each month. Please check out our events calendar for 2010 Fall meeting times and places. Parents can call Linda at 780-445-0991 for more information. Fees are $10 per year for a Student membership. Additional charges may apply if workshops or one-on-one sessions are scheduled.
Writing Competition - Grades 9 - 12 - held in conjunction with Words in the Park - Saturday November 7th 2009
The WFSC would like to congratulate Amy-Emmanuelle Jutras on her winning submission. The judges agreed that her writing showed skill, a good understanding of the requirements of preparing a submission and were impressed with her use of language to portray writing set within a specific period of time. We would like to encourage Miss Justra to "keep on writing." She was presented with a thank you letter, a discount coupon for an upcoming writer's workshop and a Chapter's Gift Certificate. Enjoy - you deserved it!
