10. The Black Forest
I know the sun shines far above
A canopy of boughs between
I feel the warmth of nature’s love
A kaleidoscope of green.
Warnings circle through my thoughts
They say dark things live there
I shut my eyes and heed them not
Otherwise would not go anywhere
In the deepest reaches of the trees
It’s, oh so dark – a calming walk
Guards stand watch protecting me
Patient listeners as I talk
They may not provide me with solutions
They are calm with swaying in the breeze
When life’s drag offers just confusion
The Black Forest puts my soul at ease.

The Black Forest
-
Take a walk with me, take my hand
Let show you something of fantastical-and-demur;
A place that is not of this land,
Let me lead you beyond, let me take you further
Then you have ever seen; beyond the grim-and-grime
Of a world so improper and without.
Here, take my hand, I won’t leave you behind
To take demise amidst this place of wretch-and-clout.
Feel my skin, the sweat and the tears
That pulse within these veins;
I have seen what can come of the years
In a world without stain.
Let me show you this thing fantastical,
A land beyond-and-without, one cannot find without guide.
In its heart you may find something misunderstood, something magical,
The Black Forest
Night falls
Draping the forest in dark
Strange animal calls
No longer having a lark
I have lost my way
Separated from friends
Had such hope in this day
Can’t wait for it to end
A simple camping trip
Now searching escape
A river found for water to sip
Desperation takes shape
I hear a noise nearby
My heart skips a beat
Don’t want to die
Alone in the trees
I hear my name
I follow it – I think it’s to the west
I see our camp – a flickering flame
No longer lost in the Black Forest
