One Last Time

Water Wheel Prompt – Feb. 6, 2021


1972 – Jefferson, a seventy-five year old man trekked carefully through the overgrown fields. The past fifty-seven years paid its toll on the land – the grass was higher, there were trees throughout the field that weren’t there when he used to make his daily run, and it had become a dumping ground for everybody’s discarded crap. Despite all the changes to the area and the fact it took him more time to get there, he knew exactly where he was going. He could find the place blindfolded. He worked at the old flour mill for ten years of his life until cheap electricity made the need for water power…
