10 Miles to the Village Wedding Mandy Eve-Barnett

The church spire pierced the blue sky and lush green of the surrounding hills, a symbol of faith in the English countryside. A focal point and landmark for residents and visitors alike for generations. I knew once the spire was visible, I was ten miles from the village. The place I grew up, knowing everyone and they, in turn, knowing me. I park my car in a gateway to view the scenery and to calm my beating heart.

The previous month had been a tumultuous round of, I can’t go and I must go. I weighed the pros and cons over and over. Should I attend the wedding or go earlier? I…
