The Letter
Janice sat cross-legged in front of the rounded-topped leather trunk on the pine hardwood floor of her grandmother's nearly empty house. It had been a busy month since the death of the beloved 99 year old matriarch, and today Janice was to take possession of this tangible memory of Grandmother Elizabeth, and her own childhood. Sitting in the warming bright sunshine, and watching out the oversized front window of the creaky old house for the arrival of her sister, Linda, she felt sorrow at the loss, and the shuffle of the generations.
She was honoured that her grandmother had expressly wished her to have the trunk after her death. Memories of it's contents flooded back: she and Linda…
